Vol. 413 No. 1

Written Answers. - Mature Students Grants.

Ivor Callely

Question:

171 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the way in which third level colleges should define a mature students grant application in view of the various interpretations being given by third level colleges which is causing concern and confusion.

Under the recently published joint Programme for Government it is proposed to amend the higher education grants scheme so that, inter alia, mature students who obtain a place in a third level institution under the special allocation for such students would be eligible for the award of a grant. It is the intention in this context to introduce, in co-ordination with the authorities of all third level institutions, a common definition for a mature student.
