Vol. 413 No. 2

Written Answers. - Forestry Growth Promotion.

Peter Barry

Question:

21 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline the specific measures being taken to promote growth in forestry as referred to in page two of the Review of the Programme for Government which was published on 18 October 1991.

The Programme for Government continues the measures adopted under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress, whereby the Government devoted substantial funds to forestry with a view to generating wealth and employment and creating a valuable resource for the future. These resources are allocated through the operational programme for forestry and related measures which qualify for EC Structural Funding and through Coillte Teóranta. These measures are leading to a major expansion in both private and public sector planting and I am confident that the targets set out in the Programme for Social and Economic Progress will be achieved.
