Vol. 413 No. 3

Written Answers. - PAYE Tax Relief.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

52 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the net cost to the Exchequer of an extra £700 tax relief per PAYE worker; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The estimated full-year cost to the Exchequer arising from the change mentioned by the Deputy is £218 million. This figure is arrived at by increasing the existing PAYE allowance from £800 to £1,500.

The cost figure is provisional and may be revised. It is estimated by reference to the 1992-93 income tax year.
