Vol. 413 No. 3

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Frank Crowley

Question:

53 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the amount of milk supplied over the quota in this country up to 1st April, 1991; the cost of this overproduction to Irish farmers; and the average payment they have made in penalties.

Milk deliveries in the quota year ended 31 March 1991 were 1.2 million gallons over the national quota. This resulted in a super-levy liability of approximately £1.5 million. As the quota system in Ireland is operated at the level of the purchaser (i.e., co-operatives or dairies), details of super-levy incurred by individual producers are not available to my Department at this stage.
