Question:

158 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health the total number of beds, in private nursing homes for elderly people, which are being subvented by the Southern Health Board.

The Southern Health Board currently subvents a total of 550 beds in private nursing homes for the elderly.

A total of 124 beds are subvented in private nursing homes under section 54 of the 1970 Health Act, and 421 beds are subvented in voluntary private nursing homes under section 26 of the 1970 Health Act.

The Southern Health Board also subvents five beds in respect of Southern Health Board patients who are in private nursing homes located outside the Southern Health Board region.
