Vol. 413 No. 6

Written Answers. - Lota (Cork) School Project.

Bernard Allen

Question:

133 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education when sanction will be granted for the construction of an extension of Scoil Trieste, Lota, County Cork, as they are using pre-fabs at present which are in bad condition, and in view of the fact that the construction of the school was first approved back in 1985 and is now urgently needed for handicapped children.

The provision of a new school had been approved in principle in 1985 but it was not possible to proceed with the scheme as designed within the limits of the resources available.

My Department are at present considering the question of the project proceeding on the basis of a modified scheme subject to the availability of capital resources.
My Department will communicate with the school authorities on the matter at the earliest possible date.
In view of the Deputy's interest, I will advise him when there have been developments.
