Michael Noonan

Question:

140 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to the fact that plans to build an extension at a school (details supplied) in County Limerick have been seriously delayed; and if he will make a commitment to put the work up for tender this year with a view to having the new accommodation available early in 1992.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 139 and 140 together.

Tender documents have been completed for the proposed extension to the school in County Limerick referred to by the Deputy. The question of the invitation of tenders is being considered in the context of the 1992 budgetary situation and the many priorities and commitments. I am not therefore in a position to say, at this stage, when tenders will be invited for the project. Officials from my Department met with the school authorities recently and fully explained the situation to them.

Due to pressure of work I am not in a position, at this point, to meet a delegation from the school.
