Question:

141 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence where uniforms used by the Defence Forces are manufactured; the source of supply; and (1) the total cost of supply of uniforms and (2) the quantity of uniforms supplied in 1990.

Uniforms supplied to the Defence Forces are manufactured in Ireland and the materials for the manufacture of uniforms are sourced in Ireland.

The total cost of items of clothing supplied to the Defence Forces in 1990 amounted to £3,819,000. These items included 5,000 service tunics, 11,000 service trousers, 12,000 working trousers, 21,000 service shirts and 5,000 working shirts, together with various quantities of combat suits, boots and headdress.
