Vol. 413 No. 6

Written Answers. - Telecom Éireann Decentralisation.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

142 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications the present status of the plan to decentralise part of Telecom Éireann to Waterford; when it is proposed to commence construction of the new offices there; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I indicated in my reply of 14 May 1991 (Official Report Volume 408, column 776) to a question on this subject, I am committed to the maximum possible amount of decentalisation. I have asked Telecom Éireann to have a further look at the possibility of finding staff for decentralisation and I understand from the company that any future opportunity to locate staff in Waterford will be considered very seriously. Meanwhile my Department are in contact with Telecom Éireann about the possibility of finding staff which might be decentralised to Waterford. The provision of office accommodation for any Telecom Éireann staff located in Waterford would be a matter for the company.
