Vol. 413 No. 6

Written Answers. - Local Government Reform.

Michael Bell

Question:

27 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline his views on the proposals of the Advisory Expert Committee on Local Government Reorganisation and Reform; if he has discussed this issue with the Association of Municipal Authorities of Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I met a deputation from the Association of Municipal Authorities of Ireland on 22 November last to hear their views on the report of the Advisory Expert Committee on Local Government Reorganisation and Reform which put forward for consideration two widely divergent proposals for sub-county local government structures. As indicated in the reply to Questions Nos. 8, 35 and 58 on 23 October, it is the intention that decisions in relation to proposals for sub-county local government structures will be taken by the Government before the end of this year. These decisions will have regard to the proposals in the report of the Advisory Expert Committee, their cost implications, and all other relevant factors.
