Vol. 413 No. 6

Written Answers. - Public Liability Insurance for Landowners.

Donal Carey

Question:

78 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he had any discussions with the Ministers for Industry and Commerce, Justice and Tourism, Transport and Communications regarding the problems which have arisen for landowners with the advent of the game shooting season; and his views on the advice that farmers acquire public liability insurance cover against compensation claims because they are seen as a good mark since trespass is no defence in court which would prove a costly exercise at the present time.

The Deputy will appreciate that it would be inappropriate for me to comment on any legal advice which landowners may get as to whether they should take out public liability insurance cover in these circumstances. I have had no discussions of the kind suggested by the Deputy.
