Vol. 413 No. 6

Written Answers. - N16 Route.

John Ellis

Question:

107 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for the Environment the plans he has with regards to the improving and upgrading of the N16 route.

No provision has been made, in the Operational Programme on Peripherality, 1989-93, for the carrying out of major improvement works on the N16 during the period of the programme. Grants have been made available, however, for normal improvements to this road. In 1991, road grants totalling £125,000 have been paid to Sligo County Council and Leitrim County Council for pavement strengthening works in the townlands of Gortnagrelly and Lugnagall in County Sligo, and at Manorhamilton in County Leitrim. In addition, a grant of £45,000 has been allocated to Leitrim County Council for bridge strengthening on the route.

The question of making allocations for improvement works on this road in 1992 will be considered when the overall road grant provision for next year has been determined.
