Vol. 413 No. 7

Written Answers. - Health Spending Cuts.

Donal Carey

Question:

31 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Health if her attention has been drawn to the comments of the chief executive officer of a health board that further cuts in health spending would require closure of smaller hospitals; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I assume the Deputy is referring to comments made by the chief executive officer of the Mid-Western Health Board during the course of a recent interview with the Irish Medical News.

The comments made were speculative and did not purport to represent other than the personal view of the chief executive officer, in the event of allocations to health boards for 1992 being less than the board's minimum needs. The allocations of health agencies for 1992 have not yet been determined.
