Vol. 413 No. 9

Written Answers. - Prison Wardens Recruitment.

Bernard Allen

Question:

197 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice if there will be a recruitment drive for prison wardens in the near future; and if so, the number of candidates to be recruited.

Recruitment to the Prison Service is by way of open competition conducted by the Civil Service Commission. The Estimates for 1992 have not yet been published and consequently I am not in a position, at present, to indicate what the recruitment programme will be next year. I should point out that in the current year 169 prison officers have been appointed from a panel of qualified persons established from the last recruitment competition.
