Vol. 413 No. 9

Written Answers. - Titles and Deeds Registration.

Gerard Brady

Question:

195 Mr. G. Brady asked the Minister for Justice the number of deeds which have been registered in the Registry of Deeds in each of the last three years; and whether it is possible to identify the number of these which were conveyances, leases or assignments as opposed to mortgages, assents or other deeds.

Gerard Brady

Question:

196 Mr. G. Brady asked the Minister for Justice (1) the number of first registrations which have been effected in the Land Registry in each of the last three years and (2) the number of transfers on sale which were registered in each of those years.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 195 and 196 together. I am informed by the Registrar of Titles and Deeds that the number of deeds registered in the Registry of Deeds from 1988 to 1991 was: 1988, 45,562; 1989, 47,857; 1990, 46,892; and 1991, 45,714 (to end of October).

Records are not maintained in such a way as to make the other information sought by the Deputy readily available and to extract that information would require the expenditure of staff time to an extent which would be unjustified in view of the other more urgent and pressing work that has to be done in the registries.
