Vol. 413 No. 9

Written Answers. - National Teachers Retirement Pensions.

Colm M. Hilliard

Question:

244 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Education the reason (1) retired national school teachers have to wait six months or more before they receive their retirement pension and (2) they are not informed that it takes this time so that they could make alternative financial arrangements.

The majority of teachers receive their first pension within two months of the date of retirement. There are no recent instances known to my Department where a teacher on voluntary retirement has had to wait six months before he/she receives payment of pension.

However, if the Deputy wishes to bring any particular cases to my attention, I will certainly have them examined.
