Vol. 414 No. 4

Written Answers. - Convention on Green House Gas Emissions.

John Bruton

Question:

161 Mr. J. Bruton, Mr. J. Mitchell, Miss Flaherty, Mr. Connor and Mr. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline his views on the approval of an international convention on green house gas emissions, similar to the convention already agreed in regard to CFCs.

I refer to the reply to Question No. 52 of 23 October 1991.

In line with the position expressed in the Dublin Declaration on the Environment made by the European Council in June 1990 and by the conclusions on Climate Change Policy by the EC Joint Energy/Environment Council of October 1990, Ireland fully supports the promotion of a climate change convention. Negotiations to this end, in which Ireland is participating, are continuing within the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee established by the UN.
