Vol. 414 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hip Replacements.

Edward Nealon

Question:

225 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Health the average waiting period for persons seeking hip replacements in the North-Western Health Board area.

Hip replacement operations in the North Western Health Board area are provided at Sligo General Hospital.

Priority is given to urgent cases in scheduling surgery for these operations. The waiting period for non-urgent hip replacement varies from 18 to 24 months. A new 22 bed orthopaedic unit will be opening shortly at Letterkenny General Hospital which will reduce the waiting time for orthopaedic procedures in the North-Western Health Board area.
