Question:233 Mr. J. Bruton, Mr. J. Mitchell, Miss Flaherty, Mr. Connor and Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the proposals he has to enhance energy efficiency in the heating of schools.

Since 1981 my Department require all school building projects to meet energy efficiency standards which are more stringent than those recommended by the Department of the Environment. Improved energy efficiency is also included in any major refurbishment or alteration of schools constructed prior to 1981.
While I am satisfied with the present situation the matter is being kept under continuous review in the light of technological and other developments.
