Vol. 414 No. 6

Written Answers. - Political Parties Financing.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

80 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Finance if he has any plans to provide for an increase in the financing of registered political parties represented in Dáil éireann; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The State provides funds for political parties in the form of amounts paid each year, subject to certain conditions, to party leaders by way of allowance for expenses. The allowances are adjusted in line with both general and special pay movements in the public service. An adjustment outside this arrangement is not contemplated at this stage.
