90 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment whether consideration has been given to the possibility of EC Structural Funds or other means to encourage urban renewal in any of the towns or villages in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Limited measures relating to urban renewal in areas designated under the Urban Renewal Act, 1986, are included in the operation programme for water, sanitary and other local services. I have no proposals to extend designation to other areas. In towns and villages generally, urban renewal is a function of the planning authority.
