69 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education if he will arrange that European Structural Fund money used to help those who are unemployed and who are taking up full-time education is extended to provide support for the purchase of essential books.
There is provision for the supply of books free of charge to long term unemployed people who are participating in the vocational training opportunity scheme. The question of providing similar support for long term unemployed people on other courses is being considered in the general context of the support for second chance education for mature students which can be provided within available resources.
