Vol. 415 No. 4

Written Answers. - Community Development Programme Funding.

Seán Barrett

Question:

127 Mr. S. Barrett asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give details of the community development programme he intends introducing in the Mountwood/Fitzgerald Park area of Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin; and if he will outline the sum of money he is allocating for this programme.

An additional £500,000 has been provided in the budget for the community development programme, bringing the overall allocation in 1992 to £1.25 million. With the additional resources which have been made available this year, I intend to extend the programme to a number of new areas around the country, including the Mountwood/Fitzgerald Park area of Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin.

This project will be built around the Mountwood/Fitzgerald Park Resource Centre which already provides a wide range of activities for the local community. The necessary preliminary work to establish a community development project in the area will be completed by my Department in conjunction with the Combat Poverty Agency in the coming months.

It is not possible at this stage to say what level of funding will be available for the project this year.
