Vol. 415 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions Written Answers. - Kilkenny Hospital Funding.

Joe Sherlock

Question:

25 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Health if she will outline the up-to-date position regarding additional funding for St. Luke's Hospital, County Kilkenny.

The provision of services at St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny, is a matter for the South-Eastern Health Board in the first instance. Each health board are responsible for determining the funding needs of the individual hospitals under their management and for the establishment of priorities within the approved allocation for the board's area.

I am happy to inform the Deputy that my Department have recently advised the South-Eastern Health Board that there was no objection to the acceptance of the recommended tender for the development project at St. Luke's. It is expected that building work will commence by late spring 1992.

The project, once completed, will result in a major improvement in hospital services for the people of Carlow and Kilkenny.
