Written Answers. - Fish Farming.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

143 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the legislation which is in place, including any EC Directives' to govern fish farming.

The primary controls on fish farming are the responsibility of the Minister for the Marine. However, in so far as my Department are concerned, the following legislation would have relevance in certain respects to the development of fish farming:— (i) Local Government (Planning and Development) Acts, 1963 to 1991; (ii) Local Government (Water Pollution) Acts, 1977 and 1990; (iii) European Communities (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations, 1989.
