Vol. 415 No. 7

Written Answers. - Remedial Teacher Appointments.

John Browne

Question:

64 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the plans, if any, he has for the appointment of additional remedial teachers for the coming year.

As the Deputy will be aware, 80 additional remedial teachers were allocated in 1991 under the terms of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress. These were additional to the 864 remedial teachers previously allocated.

It is likely that the posts becoming available this year under the programme will be required for reducing overly-large classes.

It is hoped, however, to allocate additional remedial teachers from within the 1993 allocation of teachers.
