Vol. 415 No. 8

Written Answers. - EC Legislation.

Peter Barry

Question:

362 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will outline the EC legislation in his Department which has not been implemented; when he intends to implement this legislation; and whether it must be in place before 1993.

The Department of Foreign Affairs are responsible for co-ordinating the necessary steps to implement three directives concerning right of residence. The directives are 90/364/EEC, 90/365/EEC and 90/366/EEC. These directives must be transposed into national legislation by 30 June 1992. Amending legislation may be required in order to enable Ireland to implement fully the requirements of the directives and this question is under examination at present. Should legislation be required, arrangements will be made to have such legislation in place in time to permit Ireland to comply with its obligations.
