Vol. 415 No. 9

Written Answers. - Holiday Grants for Children of Unemployed.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

164 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Education if there are any scholarships or grants available for the children of unemployed parents who would like to avail of their schools' organised three week educational holiday to Gaeltacht areas; and, if there are not funds available for these children eager to participate in these holidays, if he will have funds made available in order to encourage the use of the Irish language, especially in the Dublin area.

Scholarships are made available by different interested parties for children who wish to attend three week courses in the Gaeltacht. While some are provided by the unions there are many others which would be open to children of unemployed parents. My Department subsidise tuition fees in the Irish summer colleges while Roinn na Gaeltachta subsidise accommodation costs.
