Vol. 416 No. 1

Written Answers. - Casement Aerodrome.

Louis J. Belton

Question:

27 Mr. Belton asked the Minister for Defence if discussions have taken place recently between his Department and the Department of Tourism, Transport and Communications to consider turning the Air Corps base in Baldonnel into a joint civil and military airport.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

62 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Defence if his Department have been consulted by the Department of Tourism, Transport and Communications on the possible use of Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, County Dublin as a civilian airport or a tourist/civilian/military airport.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 27 and 62 together.

As the Department primarily responsible for airports and air traffic, the Department of Tourism, Transport and Communications is in general contact with my Department in regard to matters affecting Casement Aerodrome. There are, however, no specific proposals in relation to the use of the aerodrome as mentioned in the questions.
