49 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Defence whether staff consultations have taken place on the draft statements under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 1989; and if he will outline the current positions in relation to Coiste an Asgaird.
Consultations have taken place with staff representatives, both military and civil, on the draft safety statements prepared in respect of the offices of my Department and Defence Forces locations generally.
As regards Coiste an Asgaird, the master and mate of Asgard II have attended a course on the preparation of a safety statement. The statement is being prepared in consultation with the other three members of the permanent crew — engineer, bosun and cook.
