Question:

94 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline the breakdown of subhead AA in respect of compensation for 1992; and the reason for the expected decrease in this in comparison with 1991.

The total provision in the 1992 Defence Estimates under subhead AA — compensation — is £3,800,000. This is an increase on the 1991 allocation which was £2,590,000.

The breakdown of the 1992 provision is as follows:

Compensation for damage or injury in cases of accidents in which Army vehicles are involved.

795,000

Compensation in cases where personnel are killed or injured during training, etc., including compensation for personal injuries to members of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil and An Slua Muirí.

2,575,000

Miscellaneous claims in respect of damage or injury.

430,000
