Vol. 416 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dublin-Sligo Railway Line Maintenance.

John Connor

Question:

46 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if she has received a report from Iarnród Éireann on hazards and deficiencies on the Dublin-Sligo railway line with particular reference to the section of line from Longford to Sligo; and if she will outline the directions she has given to Iarnród Éireann to correct the defects and to ensure safety on this section of permanent way and the rolling stock used on it.

The renewal and maintenance of railway track and signalling equipment is a day-to-day function of Iarnród Éireann.

The chairman of CIE has assured me that rail services on the Dublin-Sligo line, including the section of the line from Longford to Sligo, are safe at all times for the speeds permitted for both passenger and freight trains. He has confirmed that safety will continue to be Iarnród Éireann's main priority and will not be compromised.
