Vol. 416 No. 2

Written Answers. - Irish Airlines Package Holidays.

Ivan Yates

Question:

128 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if she has any proposals to extend the licensing and bonding in the travel trade to package holidays sold by Irish airlines for Irish ferry companies and coach firms.

My Department is at present examining the implications for Irish carriers of various ways of implementation of Article 7 of Council Directive 90/314/EEC of 13 June 1990 on package travel, package holidays and package tours. This requires a package supplier, including a carrier, to provide sufficient evidence of security for the refund of money paid over and for the repatriation of the consumer in the event of insolvency. No specific proposals have yet been prepared or discussed with relevant parties.
