Vol. 416 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Retirement Age.

Ivor Callely

Question:

77 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice if he will raise the present retirement age for gardaí and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There is already provision for a temporary extension of the compulsory retirement age from 57 to 60 years of age in the case of members of the Garda, sergeant and inspector ranks, who were/are due to retire in the period 19 November 1989 to 31 December 1992. Apart from this, there are no proposals to extend the retirement age for gardaí.
