Vol. 416 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Roscommon New National Schools.

Terry Leyden

Question:

244 Mr. Leyden asked the Minister for Education when he will be inviting tenders for the erection of a new national school (details supplied) in County Roscommon; if he will confirm that planning permission has been granted by Roscommon County Council; and if he will outline the estimated cost of the project.

Planning permission for the national school project in County Roscommon referred to by the Deputy was received recently. It is now necessary to complete the detailed planning for the project and this will proceed as quickly as possible.

The question of invitation of tenders will arise when this process is completed, at which stage a decision will be taken in the matter in the context of the available capital and ongoing commitments.

It is not the practice to divulge the cost of any school project to outside parties because of the need to maintain a bond of confidentiality on the matter with the school authorities. Neither would it be prudent to do so having regard to the tendering process in due course.

Question:

245 Mr. Leyden asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the present position regarding the provision of a new national school (details supplied) in County Roscommon; whether tender documents have been prepared; and if a planning application has been submitted for this project.

The national school project in County Roscommon referred to by the Deputy is at the initial stage of architectural planning and has not yet reached the point where local authority planning permission would be sought. Officials from my Department will be meeting the school authorities next week to discuss the whole matter and I will advise the Deputy of developments.
