Vol. 416 No. 6

Written Answers. - Nenagh Hospital.

Dick Spring

Question:

287 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the future of Nenagh Hospital in County Tipperary having regard to the current staffing requirements there.

I can assure the Deputy that Nenagh General Hospital will continue to provide an integral part of the general hospital service in the Mid-Western Health Board area. This is in line with the development plan for acute hospitals in the region, which the board adopted in March 1988. This approach was reinforced by Comhairle na nOspidéal in a review of consultant manpower in the Mid-West, completed in July 1991.

In relation to staffing levels at Nenagh General Hospital, the deployment of existing staff within the Mid-Western Health Board is primarily a matter for the management of the board. I am satisfied that the hospital is adequately staffed to enable it to perform its functions, having regard to its role in the provision of hospital services in the Mid-West region.
