Vol. 416 No. 6

Written Answers. - IMO Capitation Contract.

Bernard Allen

Question:

289 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health when he proposes to introduce a new three year capitation contract with the IMO in view of the fact that the present contract expired on 29 February 1992 and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The existing contract between the medical practitioner and the health board for the provision of services to eligible patients under section 58 of the Health Act, 1970, provides for a review of the agreement on arrangements for the provision of those services. The terms of the contract are subject to alteration every three years based on the outcome of this review.

Preliminary discussions between officers of my Department and officials of the Irish Medical Organisation have begun in respect of this review and I am satisfied that this process will be completed as expeditiously as possible.
