Vol. 417 No. 2

Written Answers. - Energy Committee Report Recommendations.

Ivan Yates

Question:

14 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Energy whether he has studied the interim report of the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Advisory Committee; and if there is any action proposed arising from that study.

Ivor Callely

Question:

104 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline, (1) the progress or recommendations, if any, the National Energy Conservation and Efficiency Advisory Group have made and (2) the area of energy conservation the group has investigated; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 14 and 104 together. I requested the group at its first meeting on 24 September 1990 to provide me with an interim report before the end of that year. In view of this relatively tight schedule, the group concentrated attention on the following areas: energy use in buildings; energy use in industry; energy use in the transport sector; and new and renewable energy.

The group submitted its interim report to me in December 1990. I have studied this report, and its recommendations will be a key input into future energy conservation policies and activites being considered at present by my Department.
