Vol. 417 No. 2

Written Answers. - Allenwood Power Station.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

96 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Energy the extent to which the evaluation of the potential of the Allenwood power station has been carried out; if this review impacts in any way on the lifespan of the station; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I have informed the House previously, the ESB will continue to operate Allenwood power station and Bord na Móna will supply turf to the station, so long as supplies from the local Bord na Móna bogs permit. It is also contingent on the ESB being able to continue operating there, having regard to the age of the station, the possibility of a major breakdown occurring, and the safety of the employees and of the general public.
