Vol. 417 No. 5

Written Answers. - National School Grants.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

211 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Education if he will confirm that there is a 95 per cent grant for primary schools wishing to install a security system, and a grant available for insulation, rewiring and plumbing; and if he will give details of the way in which these grants can be applied for.

The Rules for National Schools provide for capital grants, within the overall resources available, towards the cost of wide range of improvements to school premises, including necessary security measures, insulation, rewiring and plumbing. It is a matter for the school authorities to apply to my Department for grant-aid in any specific case.

The standard grant is 85 per cent of approved costs except in the case of schools classified as disadvantaged where it is 95 per cent.
