212 Mr. Cotter asked the Minister for Education the number of girls in post-primary schools who took, (a) woodwork and (b) mechanical drawing as an examination subject in the school year 1990-91; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The information sought by the Deputy is as follows: woodwork, 738; mechanical drawing, 1,451.

The numbers of females taking these subjects, while still very modest, has been increasing steadily over the past ten years or so.
