Question:34 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Justice if he is prepared to accept instalment payment of fines; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Payment of Fines.
As I indicated in my reply to a similar question on 10 March 1992, consideration is being given in my Department to the introduction of a system of attachment of earnings to secure the payment of fines. This would require legislation. Any proposals which I may have in the matter will be announced in the ordinary way in due course.
As I have already said in response to an earlier question today, the possibility of extending the use of community service orders to fine defaulters is also being considered.
