Question:

171 Mr. Tunney asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline in respect of the Beef Industry Tribunal: (a) the cost to date and (b) the individual fee payable to counsel representing the Attorney General or any other State interest.

(a) The total cost to the Exchequer of the Beef Tribunal to the end of February 1992 was £1.7 million. (b) The fees payable to counsel for the State have been fixed by the Attorney General's Office as follows: senior counsel, £8,400 for preparatory brief plus £1,890 per diem; junior counsel, £5,600 for preparatory brief plus £1,260 per diem.
