Vol. 417 No. 9

Written Answers. - Specialist Medical Register.

Bernard Allen

Question:

224 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on a recent report (details supplied) that the Medical Council are planning a specialist register for GPs.

I am aware that the Irish College of General Practitioners have had discussions with the Medical Council to seek the establishment of a specialist register for general practitioners. Before any such register could be established, however, the Medical Council would be obliged under the Medical Practitioners Act to apply for my consent to the setting up of the register.

There has not been any such application in the recent past.
