Vol. 418 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Lottery.

Austin Currie

Question:

36 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Finance whether any estimate has been made of the amount spent on the national lottery by residents of Northern Ireland; if consideration is being given to the extension of the lottery to Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It has been estimated on the basis of research carried out by the National Lottery Company that purchases of lottery tickets in 1991 by residents of Northern Ireland accounted for slightly more than 5 per cent of total sales by the company.

There are no plans for the sale of national lottery products in Northern Ireland.
