Vol. 418 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Richard Bruton

Question:

156 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the reasons an adult dependant on a claim by a person with a disability received £8.60 less than a similar adult dependant on a claim by a person with an infectious disease; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The rate of adult dependant allowance under disabled persons maintenance allowance is in line with the rate of adult dependant allowance under social welfare schemes generally.

The rates payable under the infectious diseases maintenance allowance have traditionally been higher than those payable generally in order to encourage people suffering from an infectious disease to present for treatment.
