Vol. 418 No. 5

Written Answers. - Redeployment Application.

Michael Noonan

Question:

70 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education if he will give favourable consideration to an application for redeployment made by a person (details supplied) in County Limerick.

The redeployment scheme for lay teachers in Catholic secondary schools is the result of an agreement between the Religious-Clerical Authorities of these schools and the Association of Secondary Teachers, Ireland.

The scheme is managed by an administrator, appointed jointly by the management authorities and the ASTI.

The agreement allows for permanent teachers to apply to the administrator of the scheme for inclusion on the panel for redeployment, in exceptional circumstances. The scheme stipulates that the inclusion of such a person on the panel shall be at the discretion of the administrator and I have no function in this matter. I understand, however, that the teacher in question has made application to the administrator but no decisions have yet been taken on the teachers to be included on the panel.
