Vol. 418 No. 6

Written Answers. - Sight Loss Research.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

118 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health if he intends to allocate any extra funds for research into sight loss, with particular reference to the possibility of funding from the proceeds of the national lottery; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I indicated to the Deputy in response to a parliamentary question which he put down for answer on Thursday 26 March 1992, publicly funded research into sight loss is primarily a matter for the Health Research Board. The amount of money allocated to any particular research project from its overall annual allocation is entirely a matter for the board. I have no application for national lottery grant assistance for research into sight loss.
