Vol. 418 No. 6

Written Answers. - Cases of Measles.

Ivor Callely

Question:

122 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the number of cases of measles reported in each of the years (a) 1981, (b) 1986 and (c) 1991; whether there has been any significant improvement; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The information sought by the Deputy is shown in the following tabular statement:

Year

Number of Cases

1991

135

1986

451

1981

1,075

The significant improvement in the number of cases reported can in no small way be attributed to the introduction of the measles immunisation campaign in 1985 and the subsequent measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) campaign in 1988.
