Vol. 418 No. 6

Written Answers. - Funding for Cemeteries.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

130 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the number of cemeteries in respect of which his Department have received requests for funding from Kildare County Council and their locations; when his Department received the requests; whether these requests are in order; when he expects to be in a position to respond; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Kildare County Council have indicated to my Department that additional burial facilities will be required in Kilcullen, Maynooth, Kilcock, Gormanstown and six other areas of the county within the next four to six years. I have not been asked to approve any place for use as a burial ground in any of these areas, nor have I been asked to sanction borrowing. There are no funds available to me from which capital grants or subsidies could be allocated for this purpose.
